Dressmaking – Beginners and Developing Skills

Looking to learn a new skill? Our beginners dressmaking classes are perfect if you’ve never tried dressmaking before, or would like to learn how to work from commercial patterns and get a perfect result. Learn from scratch how to read a pattern, measure yourself correctly and put together a simple garment. Our small classes are taught in a friendly environment by an experienced teacher. For students who have mastered the basics these classes allow you to take your dressmaking knowledge to a new level. Learn new and more complex techniques, patterns and fabrics.

Explore Tradition and Modern patchwork blocks and techniques in our small and informal classes,taught by our owner, Kevin.Knowledge of using a sewing machine is preferable to get the most out of these short classes. We have sewing machines in the classroom for you to use students will need, however, a rotary cutter, cutting mat and patchwork ruler. You can purchase any of these at Fabric Focus, and receive 10% off when buying supplies for your class. Limited spare equipment available.

Patchwork Frog Class

Create a cute patchwork frog with Kevin, in this one-off class. A perfect opportunity to use up some of your stash and create a new friend!

Pellets ( for stuffing) and pattern are included in the price.

Students will need to bring:

Scraps of cotton (equal to about 1 fat quarter size/ 20″ square)

1x Fat Quarter

Intro to English Paper Piecing

We are so pleased to bring you a new class this autumn- introduction to English Paper Piecing (or EPP). EPP doesn’t require knowledge of a sewing machine- as everything is hand sewn. Classes are kept small and friendly to ensure you get the most from your lessons.

We will provide you with some of the tools you will need (including needles and thread).

Students will need to bring:

1x Fat Quarter (shown in picture as patterned)

30cm x 112cm  of two co-ordinating cottons (shown in picture as green and cream solid)


Thimble (optional)
