Beginners Dressmaking

Looking to learn a new skill? Our beginners dressmaking classes are perfect if you’ve never tried dressmaking before, or would like to learn how to work from commercial patterns and get a perfect result.
Learn from scratch how to read a pattern, measure yourself correctly and put together a simple garment. Our small classes are taught in a friendly environment by an experienced teacher.

This class will provide the student with a good knowledge and understanding of garment construction from beginning to end, learning different techniques and mastering the sewing machine and to enjoy the process with encouragement to carry on this very useful skill.

Beginner/Intermediate Dressmaking

Whether you are completely new to dressmaking or are looking for guidance with more advanced techniques, this class can help.

As a beginner, you will learn from scratch how to read a pattern, measure yourself correctly and put together a simple garment. Get comfortable working with sewing machines and fabric, and learn the lingo.

As an ‘intermediate’ dressmaker you have the basic skills already but are looking to improve or advance your knowledge. You are encouraged to explore new areas of dressmaking. Keen to try working with a new fabric? Looking to improve your skills with sleeves? Or simply need guidance with a tricky pattern? Students should come with a chosen pattern that will give them new challenges combined with their previous dressmaking knowledge and a good understanding of the use of the sewing machine.

Patchwork Classes

Explore different blocks every week, in our small, informal classes. Knowledge of using a sewing machine is preferable, as we only have two hours to master each block.

Fabrics are provided for you each week, and we have sewing machines in the classroom for you to use.

Students will need, however, a rotary cutter, cutting mat and patchwork ruler.

You can purchase any of these at Fabric Focus, and receive 10% off when buying supplies for your class.
